Mamoru Hosoda’s 2018 film, Mirai, is getting a vinyl soundtrack release from label Music on Vinyl. The soundtrack will be pressed on 180g pink blossom vinyl and housed in a sleeve jacket along with a 4-page booklet.
Mirai is written and directed by Mamoru Hosoda and produced by Studio Chizu. The film follows the story of Kun, a four-year-old boy who is struggling to adjust to the arrival of his new baby sister, Mirai. One day, Kun runs away from home and stumbles upon a magical garden that serves as a time-traveling gateway. Through the garden, Kun meets his mother as a little girl, his grandfather as a young man, and his future self as a teenager. These encounters help Kun to understand his family’s history and to come to terms with the arrival of his new sister.
The film’s soundtrack was composed by Masakatsu Takagi, who has also composed for other Mamoru Hosoda films such as Wolf Children and The Boy and the Beast. The Mirai vinyl soundtrack is limited to 1,000 numbered copies and available to pre-order now.
